Life in Portland
|
There are many places to study English abroad. Here is why Portland, Oregon is the best.
Oregon is world famous for its natural beauty, its variety of activities and events, and its friendly people. Portland has about 1.5 million people so it has all the benefits of a big city. However, it has a friendly, small town feel.
Portland is a beautiful, very clean and safe city. In addition, Portland is close to many wonderful natural sites. It takes just one hour to go to the Pacific Coast, Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge.
Portland is not an expensive city. Portland has the lowest cost of living, which includes food, housing, transportation, and entertainment, of any large city on the American West Coast. Best of all there is no sales tax in Oregon, while most other states have a 7-8% sales tax.
It is easy to live in Portland without having a car. Portland has one of the best bus and train systems in America; including free busses and trains in downtown. Portland is one of the most bicycle friendly cities in America. You do not need a car to enjoy living in Portland.
At our school we plan events and activities so that students can enjoy the many benefits of Portland life.
